*THE BLANDFORD Stour Valley Brass Band has a long and *THE BLANDFORD Stour Valley Brass Band has a long and continuous history and can easily
trace it’s roots back to 1863, when the band became the National Brass Band Champions of
Great Britain under the baton of Robert Ayres at Crystal Palace .
The band still rehearses and performs locally around the Blandford Forum area, and is
regularly heard playing at local events including civic occasions, festivals, fetes, Blandford
Georgian Day and the Great Dorset Steam Fair.
It entertains all facets of the local community including homes for the handicapped,
residential homes, supporting local charities and schools.
Under its current conductor, Mr Tim Stankus the band has toured to Mortain, Euro Disney in
France, the Moselle Valley in Germany and across to the Isle of Wight . At present the band
has a strong membership including a up and coming youth section. They play a diverse
musical repertoire, which caters for all tastes from popular classics and traditional brass
band favourites, right through to current hits from the shows and pop charts.
The band’s key role is very much centred on encouragement of its strong musical traditions.

charge.
